Live Organic: Fairtrade

今日は”フェアトード”について話したいと思います。

フェアトレードについて端的に説明させていただきますと、開発発展途上国で作られた農作物や製品を適正な価格で継続的に取引することにより、生産者の生活を支える貿易のあり方です。フェアトレードは貧困課題の解決策の一つとして、世界中で広がっているムーブメントです。

開発発展途上国では、労働者が正当な賃金や対価が支払われることがなかったり、生産性を求め、環境への負荷が多い農作物の育て方をしていたりすることがあります。それに対し、フェアトレードでは、労働者に正当な賃金を払い、労働環境を整えていくことで、環境を含めた生産者の生活基準を向上させることを目指しています。こうして、サステイナブルであり、フェアーな世界を築き上げていく運動がフェアトレードなのです。

私達の取り扱っているいくつかの商品もフェアトレードによるものです。しかし、いずれかはフェアトレードからダイレクトトレードに変えていき、より一層生産者達に還元できるようになっていければなと思っています。

We are going to look into “Fairtrade” today.

“Fairtrade” is a trading system ensuring fair wages for workers and working conditions. “Fairtrade” aims to safeguard and improve the work environments and economies of developing countries. 

There were cases where workers from developing countries were not rewarded with fair wages or/and working in a safer conditions. In the pursuit of productivity, some have forgotten to be a good steward of our environments by using pesticides and chemical fertilizers that could harmfully influence both a worker’s and the environment’s condition. “Fairtrade” is one of the ways to deal with these issues and one of the ways to establish a sustainable future.  

Some of our products are fairtrade certified. Though, we are looking forward to impacting farms and even beyond in the future.
